In an article about a new proposed talk show being developed for lackluster comedienne Aisha Tyler, The Hollywood Reporter discusses speculation the project might be headed for ABC's afternoon lineup, which currently airs All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital. According to article, ABC insists the talker is being developed for cable or syndication, however the very fact that THR even put the idea of The Mouse House replacing a soap with a talk show out in the universe has me worried.
There has been speculation that the project might be eyed for ABC's afternoon block, which airs the soaps "All My Children," "One Life to Live" and "General Hospital." (CBS recently canceled its long-running soap "Guiding Light" and will replace it with a game or talk show).
But ABC sources stressed that "Tyler" is being targeted strictly for syndication or cable."
Again, ABC is saying the show is slated for cable or syndication, but Daytime Confidential wouldn't be doing our job if we didn't tell you what an industry bible like The Hollywood Reporter is speculating. With several ABC soaps hitting record lows in recent weeks, with numbers dipping near that of the recently-cancelled Guiding Light—which the article cites as a benchmark—now may be the time to let ABC know just how much your favorite soaps mean to you.
