Join us in mourning the loss of Katherine Phillips Hughes, creator of the short-lived ABC soap opera A World Apart, and daughter of the genre's mother, Irna Phillips. The seemingly-autobiographical soap-within-a-soap followed the life and times of a celebrated soap opera writer and her adopted children, taking from Phillips Hughes own life with her famous mother. Susan Sarandon played the daughter. According to Variety, at the time of her death Phillips Hughes was developing music and reality TV projects in southern California. She was 65.
