Daytime Confidential Top 20, August 2009

No. 20: Chris Engen - The Young and the Restless

After spending the past three months among the Daytime Confidential Top 20 top four, interest in Chris Engen appears to be subsiding. Engen plummets from No. 2 in July to No. 20 in August.



No. 19: Farah Fath - One Life to Live

Chris Engen wasn't the only one to suffer a major drop on the Daytime Confidential Top 20. One Life to Live's Farah Fath fell from No. 11 in July to No. 19 in August. Fath is one of two One Life to Live stars to earn a DC Top 20 ranking.


No. 18: Jon Hensley - As the World Turns

As the World Turns' Jon Hensley makes his Daytime Confidential Top 20 debut at No. 18 on August's countdown. His appearance on the list is not surprising, considering the emerging trend of spiking interest in stars whose characters are killed off or disappear off screen.


No. 17: Daniel Goddard - The Young and the Restless

The Young and the Restless' Daniel Goddard dropped ten spots from No. 7 in July to No. 17 in August on the Daytime Confidential Top 20. This is the lowest Goddard has ranked since he held the No. 18 spot in March.


No. 16: Kim Zimmer - Guiding Light

For the second month in a row Guiding Light'sKim Zimmer is sitting pretty at No. 16 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20.


No. 15: John Driscoll - The Young and the Restless

Like his fellow The Young and Restless stars Goddard and Engen, John Driscoll suffered a significant drop in August. He fell from No. 7 in July to No. 15 in August.


No. 14: Brett Claywell - One Life to Live

One half of One Life to Live's popular Kish coupling, Brett Claywell, earned a spot on August's Daytime Confidential Top 20 at No. 14. This is a 21 place jump in rank from No. 35 in July. Claywell's co-star Scott Evans just missed out on the DC Top 20, coming in at No. 21.

No. 13: Gina Tognoni -
Guiding Light


The intense speculation of where Gina Tognoni might end up after Guiding Light appears to have helped her earn her first Daytime Confidential Top 20 ranking, in August, at No. 13.

No. 12: Maura West -
As the World Turns


Maura West continues to represent for As the World Turns, even while on maternity leave. For the second month in a row she holds the No. 12 spot on the Daytime Confidential Top 20. Interest in her absence from ATWT, and when she might return, could be a factor in her continued appearance on the DC Top 20.


No. 11: Victoria Rowell - The Young and the Restless

Two-time former Daytime Confidential No. 1 The Young and the Restless star, Victoria Rowell, slid from No. 9 in July to No. 11 in August. With her appearances at the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards, and her Obama dress, it will be interesting to see where she lands in September.

Guiding Light's Marcy Rylan climbs two spots from No. 10 in July to No. 8 in August. With GL's finale, it will be interesting to see how Rylan and other former GL stars fare on the Daytime Confidential Top 20 in the coming months.

No. 7: Jessica Leccia -
Guiding Light


Guiding Light's Jessica Leccia fell from No. 4 in July to No. 7 in August, making room for some new additions and returns to the Daytime Confidential Top 6. How will Leccia's involvement in Venice impact her DC Top 20 rank? Only time will tell.

No. 6: Lisa Ling - The View and Oprah


The View's Lisa Ling makes her Daytime Confidential Top 20 debut at No. 6 on August's countdown. This is the first time a current or former The View co-host earned a DC Top 20 ranking. Interest in Ling spiked in August amid the high profile coverage of her sister being freed by the North Korean government.

No. 5: Alicia Minshew - All My Children

Former Daytime Confidential Top 20 No. 1 Alicia Minshew returns to the top five in August. Since April, when she dropped out of the DC Top 20 at No. 22, Minshew has steadily been working her way back up the list. She appeared at No. 20 in May, No. 10 June and No. 8 in July.


No. 4: Steve Burton - General Hospital

General Hospital's
Steve Burton returns to a familiar spot for him. Burton spent much of 2008 in the Daytime Confidential Top 5, but in 2009 he's spent much more time farther down the countdown. The last time he appeared in the DC Top 5 was in March of this year.


No. 3: Christel Khalil - The Young and the Restless

Like Maura West and Kim ZimmerThe Young and the Restless' Christel Khalil seems perfectly happy maintaining her July ranking at No. 3 in August. Interest in Khalil remains high as her Y&R character Lily battles cancer.

No. 2: Crystal Chappell - Guiding Light


After two months at No. 1 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20 Crystal Chappell drops one spot to No. 2 on the August DC Top 20. Interest in Chappell remained consistently high, but it wasn't enough overcome the intense interest in August's DC Top 20 No. 1. Will the publiciaty blitz surrounding the finale of Guiding Light and the anticipation of her upcoming web series Venice help her reclaim the No. 1 spot next month?

No. 1: Melody Thomas Scott - The Young and the Restless


Thanks to Nikki Newman being written off The Young and the Restless in August, Melody Thomas Scott bumped three-time Daytime Confidential No. 1 Crystal Chappell to No. 2 on August's DC Top 20, with more hits in a single month than any No. 1 DC Top 20 star in 2009. DC reader interest was so high it moved Melody Thomas Scott into a tight race for the No. 1 ranking on the 2nd Annual Daytime Confidential Hot 100, which is published at the end of the year. This is the first time in 2009 and the first since Victoria Rowell in September of 2008 that a Y&R star has earned the No. 1 spot on the DC Top 20.

Some of the soap stars who earned a spot on the Daytime Confidential Top 50 are Days of Our Lives’Arianne Zucker at No. 22. As the World Turns’ Jake Silbermann at No. 28. General Hospital’sFinola Hughes at No. 35. The Bold and the Beautiful’sKatherine Kelly Lang at No. 43. Guiding Light’s Mandy Bruno at No. 47 and Days of Our Lives’Nadia Bjorlin at No. 50.
