Okay boys and girls and those pesky minatures who live in the cracks beneath my floor board, there won't be much ranting or raving this week, since I am a bit behind on my soaps. The good news is though, Ratings, Rants and Raves will now be a weekly feature, every Friday come hell or high cholesterol!
Okay, so The Young and the Restless recovered nicely from those nasty numbers the previous ratings cycle (Source: Soap Opera Network). Since much of the soaps were pre-empted that week, you can't really say it was a bunch of bad, plot driven writing that tanked the show for a change. Anyhoo, Y&R shot back up185,000 total viewers and is up year-to-date 127,000. You're welcome Aunti Ri Ri. I called up all of my family members and told them they had to watch for the scene-stealing new Abby (Marcy Rylan), and those 185,000 people were just on my Mama's side. Y&R also went up one-tenth of a point in households and one-tenth of a point among women 18-49.
Y&R's skanky, stupid sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful went up 8,000 total viewers. B&B also went up one-tenth of a point in households, but lost one-tenth of a point among women 18-49, tying its all-time low in that demo. I am so mad at B&B right now I don't know what to do. I guess I am the only fan who isn't thrilled right out of my corset that Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) %^(#$# another one of her daughters' boyfriends like some wild, stray animal, let in through the open, back gate of a ranch, who eats up all your chickens and makes your grandmother have to get the shotgun, while you cry and beg her not to shoot the pretty wolfie (takes breath).
Brooke is one of my all-time favorite characters, so no, I am not thrilled to see her amid this tired ass Passions plot. I tell you I will cry like a baby that great and dreadful day when a talk show starring Kathy Najimy, Dionne Warwick and Rosie Perez replaces Y&R, but I won't shed one damn tear for The Bold and the Slowful. If Brad Bell doesn't care that his show is a cartoonish joke, why should I? As The World Turns went up 6,000 total viewers, yet tied its all-time lows in households and among women 18-49.
Over at ABC, the only soap to go down in total viewers was One Life to Live, which shed 30,000 watchers. OLTL held steady in households and among women 18-49. It should be noted that ABC Daytime's Cinder-Soap Opera was Number 3 in the most coveted women 18-49, only separated by big sis, General Hospital by one-tenth of a ratings point. ABC's other soap, Secrets of a Mountain Man All My Children went up 2,000 total viewers. AMC held steady in households and among women 18-49. Now for GH, my current favorite soap on the dial (seriously, the fall out from "Sins of a Father"is cable worthy) etched up 24,000 total viewers. GH held steady in households, tied with its sisters, yet went up among women 18-49, where it held the Number 2 spot. I get goose zits just thinking of where this soap will be ratings-wise come August when SHE returns!
Last, but...yeah you know the drill. Days of Our Lives went up 26,000 total viewers. DAYS also went up in households, but held steady among women 18-49. Well, that's all for this week. Please stay tuned for a word from our sponsor.
(FADE IN: Crowded nightclub, DJ spinning Lady Gaga, full of striking people, embarking on glamorous liasions, ravishing rendezvous and one black guy at the bar, digging a wedgie out of his ass while doing shots of Tequila. Zoom in on a table of well-heeled twentysomethings— Lara, a blonde; Connie, a brunette; Dara an African American a brown-skinned person of indeterminable race, fully vetted by Focus Groups and Sheila, a redhead.
Lara: Like OMG, this place is so packed tonight, I LOVE it!
Connie: I know! Look at all the hot guys, I might be doing a little hooking up in the bathroom tonight. You know what I'm saying??? (raises her hand to slap Dara a high five. Dara stares, blinks three times, before looking away. Connie slowly puts her hand down. Confused. Don't they like to do that sort of thing when they get excited?)
Sheila: Connie, you are so bad! You wouldn't hook up with some random guy after sweating all night on the dance floor, would you? That only happens on Gossip Girl, XOXO bitch! I mean come on (leans over to whisper) your hoo ha must be riper than a peach in Georgia!
Connie (reaches into her Zac Posen purse from Target, Zoom in on logo): That's why I brought THIS! (zoom in on large can, almost the size of the purse, of WASH IT! Brand feminine deodorant spray). WASH IT! Brand Feminine Deodorant Spray! Girls, when you see that special hottie, like that Tiger Woods lookalike over there, giving you the eye, and like adjusting his junk all knowingly and you don't have time to run home for a quick freshen up—wait, that IS Tiger! Hey baby (waves)—WASH IT! Brand Feminine Hygiene Products are the RIGHT product for you!
Lara (grabs the can, almost drops it on the table due to it's weight): OMG, I've heard about this stuff! My aunt, who was almost selected to be on the Real Housewives of Bettendorf, Iowa, SWEARS by it, and she is quite the busy socialite, if you get my meaning, and I know you guys all do, because we are all so friggin' fabulous, right???
Dara (sighs, pulls up her Android to check her messages): I need new friends.
Connie: Of course you're right Lara, we ARE fabulous, and now thanks to WASH IT! Brand Feminine hygiene products, we can finally be fabulous and FRESH!
** Only like a couple of animals were hurt in the testing of these products, and none from the cute and/or cuddly variety.
