Mimi Torchin, Ilene Kristen and Colleen Zenk Join Today's Protest of ABC Upfronts Following Soap Cancellations
Heartbroken-yet-mobilized ABC soap fans have gained three notable allies in their fight to save the Mouse House soaps. Veteran soap opera journalist Mimi Torchin (founding editor of Soap Opera Weekly)and the insanely popular Colleen Zenk (ex-Barbara, As The World Turns) and Ilene Kristen (Roxy, One Life to Live) will all be on hand for today's planned protest of the ABC Upfronts at Lincoln Center in New York.
The Upfronts are an annual event where TV networks present their next fall's lineups to advertisers. Soap fans, outraged over the twin cancellations of All My Children and One Life to Live, as well as rumors about General Hospital possibly being cancelled to make room for a Katie Couric-helmed talk show, devised this protest to let advertisers know they won't be supporting any series that replaces these beloved soaps.
Taking it a step further, many ABC soap fans have been boycotting the network's primetime schedule as well. Today's peaceful demonstration, complete with a protest permit from the NYPD, will be held from 2-6 pm EST at Lincoln Center, located at 132 W 65th St & Columbus Ave. For more information, visit the protest's official Facebook page.
