Telemundo and Sony Team for Telenovela Based on Maid In Manhattan
In an unprecedented move, Telemundo has revealed the network's premiere novela based on a big screen movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Spanish-language cabler teamed up with Sony Pictures to adapt the popular 2002 Jennifer Lopez/Ralph Fiennes romantic comedy Maid In Manhattan for the small screen.
Maid In Manhattan is a modern day fairy tale about a Hispanic single mother, working as a maid at a swank NYC hotel, who falls for a dashing politician. The movie grossed almost $155 million.
Telemundo's cable cousin Mun2, also made a soapy splash at this year's Upfronts by announcing a second season of the hit bilingual soap RPM Miami. The addictive, weekly serial, set in the world of illegal street racing, stars Passions' alum Adrian Bellani as Alejandro, an Iraqi War vet who returns home to find his father missing following a dirty race. The 13-episode first season of RPM Miami was shot on a shoestring budet on location in Florida, sans sets or sound stages. Glad to see someone still knows how to make a successful soap opera!
