Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati to Reunite at General Hospital?

It looks like ABC Daytime is at the very least re-assembling daytime soap opera's last, great dream team to either save General Hospital or send it out on a highnote. On the heels of news breaking about Frank Valentini taking over as executive producer of GH, comes word that One Life to Live's final head writer Ron Carlivati is following Valentini to Port Charles!

According to ABC Soaps In Depth on Twitter, Carlivati will be assuming the role of head writer of the troubled sudser. He and Valentini definitely have their work cut out for them. As previously reported, GH will no longer have a confirmed timeslot on the ABC Daytime lineup come fall of 2012. This is as a result of ABC having had to cede an hour from the lineup back to their affiliates in order to get local channels to carry Katie Couric's upcoming talk show.

GH is essentially competiting with The Chew and OLTL's upcoming replacement The Revolution for a place at the very table the once juggernaut sudser arguably set, by making ABC Daytime the most watched lineup for decades. Think of it as a peverse game of musical chairs.

Here's hoping Frank and Ron can work ratings and creative magic similar to what they accomplished during OLTL's final season, and that this time around, ABC will actually reward their efforts by not cancelling another soap in favor of cheap, reality show schlock.
