BREAKING NEWS: ABC CANCELS The Revolution, GMA Spin Off Takes Timeslot For Summer, General Hospital Safe?!

Is General Hospital safe? Deadline is reporting ABC Daytime made the smart decision to cancel low-rated One Life to Live replacement The Revolution. The talk show will last air in early July. A spin off of Good Morning America, tentatively titled GMA In The Afternoon, will take over the timeslot for summer, starting July 9 and run for nine weeks, according to the website.

While the Deadline article states that Vicki Dummer has decided to "stick with GH" and uses words like "renewal" to describe what has transpired with the 49-year-old sudser, GH is still lacking a definitive timeslot for fall 2012. Here's what the website's Nellie Andreeva wrote:

I hear ABC is not ready to lock in its daytime schedule for next season yet, it would make sense to keep The Chew at 1 PM and put GH at 2 PM as a lead-in for Katie on the ABC stations, the core station group that will carry Couric’s new syndicated talker.

Andreeva went on to report this latest development "ensures that GH, which marked 49 years on the air on April 1, will celebrate its 50th anniversary next April." I don't know about anyone else, but I'm gonna hold off buying the party hats until GMA In The Afternoon comes and mercifully goes away...
