General Hospital showrunner Frank Valentini and much of his cast were on hand for the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour on Thursday. The Port Chucksters seemed optimistic in light of ABC opting to keep GH in play for the time being, but were also aware of the lethal climate daytime dramas currently exist in. Below are a few key quotes:
Valentini on ABC's renewed commitment to the show, as reported by Deadline:
They’re behind this 100% and very excited about the 50th anniversary coming up. I’m pretty confident. You just need to watch the show to sort of catch the energy and the momentum that we have, and the network’s a big part of that.
Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) on the importance of tradition, as reported in the LA Times:
“I think everyone seems to enjoy cutting-edge things these days,” said Nancy Lee Grahn, who has played Alexis Davis on the sudser since 1996. “But there's something to really be valued about tradition and something that is familiar and makes people feel comfortable and is generational and inclusive.”
Anthony Geary (Luke) on GH's audience, as reported in Deadline:
Anthony Geary, who has played Luke Spencer on the show since 1978, quipped: “Anyone who works at night like hookers. We’re in fact very big with hookers.”,
Michael Easton (McBain) on crossing over from One Life to Live, as reported in The Hollywood Reporter:
It was bittersweet," said Michael Easton, who transitioned his One Life to Live character to General Hospital after the series' end. "At the same time it's been exciting to come over and work with these guys. We were pretty aware for year there that the wrecking ball was right outside the door. It's interesting to come over here and have the same feeling."
