If it's one thing Charlotte Ross knows, it's how to create a popular soap character. The actress, who had her breakout role as Shane Donovan's (Charles Shaughnessy) bitchy daughter Eve on Days of Our Lives from 1987-91, is getting ready to suds things up again. The NYPD Blue alum has been cast in VH1's upcoming drama Hit The Floor (Previously titled Bounce).
From creator James LaRosa, Hit The Floor follows the lives and loves of dancers for a professional Los Angeles basketball team. Somewhere, former Laker girl Paula Abdul has to be wondering why she didn't come up with this concept.
Ross will play Olivia, an ex-dancer-turned-basketball wife, who oversees the Los Angeles Devil Girls squad. Also starring are: Dean Cain as Pete, coach of the Los Angeles Devils; Kimberly Elise as Sloane and Taylour Paige as Ahsha, Sloane's daughter and the serial's central dancer. Hit The Floor recently signed an international distribution deal with Starz Worldwide Distribution.
“Starz Worldwide Distribution is extremely pleased to establish a distribution relationship with VH1 for this series. Hit the Floor is a fun ride and a perfect fit internationally alongside our content,” said Gene George, the executive VP of worldwide distribution for Starz. “Lining up a world-class partner in VH1 is an acknowledgment of our world class distribution capabilities and gives us another opportunity to build upon our successes in the marketplace.”
VH1 has achieved scripted success in recent years with the dramedy Single Ladies. The cabler's execs seem geeked about their latest offering.
“Hit the Floor is VH1's biggest scripted effort to date, and should play extremely well to an international audience,” said Eddie Dalva, the executive VP of content and program enterprises, entertainment and music groups at Viacom Media Networks.
