After about a million weeks on hiatus, Once Upon A Time returned to the airwaves Sunday evening, and did not disappoint. Rumpelstiltskin’s relationship with Belle took center stage, while The Evil Queen lived up to her name. Check out the Top 5 Moments from OUAT’s “Lacey”.
Regina Restores Belle’s Memory
Regina (Lana Parrilla) visited Belle (Emilie de Ravin) in the hospital, shortly before she was discharged. The two shared introductions, and Belle mentioned Rumpelstiltskin’s promise to help her regain her memory. At that moment, Regina formulated a quick plan to help Belle along memory lane. As Belle packed her bag, Regina bent down, magically enchanted a matchbook from her pocket, and asked if Belle dropped it. Belle didn’t recognize it, but Regina forced her to take a closer look. Upon a second look, Belle admitted the item may have just helped her remember the past.
Soon after, Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) returned to Belle’s room to take her home, but she had disappeared. He found the matchbook that read “The Rabbit Hole”, and went to the establishment in search of answers about Belle. He described Belle to the bartender who pointed to a woman matching Rumpel’s description, but called her “Lacey”. Rumpel was shocked to see Belle playing pool and taking shots of alcohol to the head. He soon realized Regina had to be behind Belle’s new identity.
Rumpel confronted Regina and she confessed to returning Belle’s memory of her cursed self. Regina taunted Rumpel about being unable to reverse Belle’s old curse memories, and relished in Rumpel’s anguish over coming up with a way for this Belle, or “Lacey”, to fall in love with him. Has Regina gotten one over on The Dark One?
Rumpelstiltskin Embraces The Dark Side
Somehow, Rumpel managed to get “Lacey” to go out on a date with him. The date didn’t go well at all, and “Lacey” disappeared in the middle of it. Rumpel searched for her, and found the beauty making out with a familiar face from The Enchanted Forest. “Lacey” confessed she only went out with Rumpel because she was trying to be nice. She yelled Belle was gone and never coming back.
A heartbroken Rumpel wandered to his car, where the man who was kissing Belle confronted him. At this point, Rumpel was done being nice. He magically ripped the man’s tongue out, and beat him with his cane. Lacey happened up on Rumpel lashing the man, and commented everything she heard about Rumpel’s dark side was true. Rumpel admitted it was, and Belle seemed to be turned on by his confession. Rumpel continued to cane the man more, and Belle smiled with pride. Look out, Storybrooke! A new dark pairing just might be on the horizon.
The Charming’s Secret and Regina’s Discovery
David (Josh Dallas) and Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) brought Emma (Jennifer Morrison) out into the middle of nowhere to show her a secret. They stepped into a seemingly empty field, and walked through a cloaked portal. Inside, they met up with Anton the Giant (Jorge Garcia) and the Seven Dwarfs in a magic bean garden. It didn’t take long for Emma to conclude the Charming’s planned to use the magic beans to open a gateway back to the Enchanted Forest. She worried about all the dangers in going back “home”, but David and Mary believed The Enchanted Forest would be a fresh start for the whole family. Emma was hesitant at the idea, because their current world is the only home she has ever known. David mentioned how cruel the world had been to her, and suggested The Enchanted Forest could be her chance to find a happy ending.
Later, Emma reflected on her earlier conversation with her parents by reading “Once Upon A Time” the book when Regina showed up. They chatted, and Regina knew Ms. Swan was hiding something huge in regards to Henry (Jared S. Gilmore). Emma tried to play it off, but Regina was a dog with a bone. She came up with a plan to learn exactly what Emma was hiding.
Regina bided her time, and watched David drop off Anton and the rest of dwarfs at a bar. When David rode away, Regina touched the road and a path of the truck’s tire tracks appeared. Regina followed the path to the empty field, and knew something wasn’t quite right. Regina waved her hand in front of the field, and revealed the magic bean garden. Will Regina sabotage The Charming’s plan to return to The Enchanted Forest?
In the Enchanted Forest, Rumpelstiltskin held a heartbroken Belle captive in his extravagant castle. As he berated her for crying, he heard a strange noise. He left her to see what it was, and Belle followed. A stranger, Robin Hood (Tom Ellis), had broken in, and nabbed a magic wand. Robin Hood attempted to kill Rumpel by shooting a magic arrow through his heart, but it was to no avail. Rumpel pulled the arrow out, and imprisoned Robin Hood.
After a torture session with Robin Hood, Rumpel ordered Belle to clean his blood soaked apron. Belle pretended to oblige, and ran down to the dungeon once Rumpel was out of sight. She gave Robin Hood water, and freed him. Robin Hood worried about Belle’s safety before leaving, but she assured him she wasn’t afraid of Rumpel. Rumpel returned and quickly discovered Robin Hood was gone. He confronted Belle about Robin Hood, and she admitted to helping him escape. Belle believed Robin Hood was good, and only wanted to leave the castle with his life. However, Rumpel showed her Robin Hood left with his life, and the magic wand. Belle determined Robin Hood must have needed the wand for a special reason, but Rumpel knew the thief only wanted magic. He declared he would search for Robin Hood and kill him with his own bow. To add insult to injury, Rumpel insisted Belle join him to watch the whole thing.
Rumpel made quick work of a man who tried to flirt with Belle, and forced him to reveal Robin Hood’s whereabouts. Rumpel found the thief using the wand on a sick woman. Rumpel was about to shoot an arrow at Robin Hood, when Belle suddenly stopped him. She knew Robin Hood had a good reason to use the wand, and pointed out the woman was pregnant. Rumpel didn’t care and magically held Belle into the ground to watch him kill Robin Hood. As Rumpel pulled back on the arrow, Belle pled with him to stop because there is good in him. She believed he is not the kind of man to leave a child fatherless. Rumpel let go of the arrow, but missed his target. Belle knew Rumpel did it on purpose, because the bow and arrow is enchanted with magic not to miss its target.
Rumpel and Belle returned to the castle, and Rumpel showed Belle his library. He wished for her to clean the room, but Belle knew his real reason for the sudden library. The more this show reveals of how Belle changed Rumpelstiltskin, the more I love the couple.
Greg and Tamara’s Special Delivery
Greg (Ethan Embry) and Tamara (Sonequa Martin-Green) spent most of the episode speaking in code about a special delivery. At the end of the hour, Tamara met Greg at Storybrooke’s boundary line with the package inside of a storage trailer. Tamara opened up the trailer and revealed Captain Hook bound and gagged. What does Hook’s return mean for Storybrooke’s citizens?
