Rosie O’Donnell has landed a recurring role on The Fosters. The former daytime talk show host will play Rita Hendricks, a no-nonsense, but kind-hearted foster care worker. Rita will become a mentor to a member of the Foster clan on the hit ABC Family drama.
O’Donnell is no stranger to the world of foster care world. The actress is a foster and adoptive mother herself and staunch advocate for the foster care system. On her upcoming role, O’Donnell stated:
I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful, heartwarming show. My kids and I never miss it.
The show's executive producers and creators Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige said in a released statement:
When Rosie O’Donnell tweeted that she loved The Fosters, we knew we had to reach out and try to snap her up! Having witnessed her support of foster children and blended families, we knew she would be a perfect fit for the show.
The Fosters returns to ABC Family this January.
