INTERVIEW: Nathan Fillion Talks State of One Life to Live, Emmys and Season 6 of Castle

If you thought former One Life to Live star Nathan Fillion looked good singing and dancing at the 65th Annual Primetime Emmys, it will equally warm your heart to know the actor is still a fan of soaps!

"It really made me sad to hear that One Life to Live was cancelled again," said Fillion. "I had such an incredible time on that show. It was my very first job. I am very sad that daytime is a dying breed; not just because we are going to be denied that source of entertainment, but because, for actors like myself, anybody who has ever done a soap can tell you it is the most incredible intense work experience you can ever put yourself into.Truly, the only people who don't respect daytime are the people who haven't worked in it. It's incredibly hard work and I learned from the best. I was very well cared for on that show, people who became my friends....I consider them to be the best in the biz."

Fillion is still in touch with Kassie and James DePaiva, Erika Slezak, Robin Strasser, Bob Woods, and Tuc Watkins.

"These people are like family to me, I absolutely love and adore them," said Fillion. "When I have guest actors on Castle that have a soap background, it's like we are in a secret club. We know, we've been there. We know what it's like."

The handsome actor was getting his Emmy swag on at the Backstage Creations Giving Back gifting suite when Daytime Confidential caught up with him.

"I love everything," he said of the gifts. "I got a pair of sunglasses—which I can always use—and I got some Sabra Hummus. That is going to go over very big at my house! And the Bose headphones! I love those. I am on planes a lot and it's always a big deal to me to have noise cancelling headphones."

Fillion was more than thrilled to be a part of the awards ceremony.

"I think this is my second or third Emmy awards," he began. "It's so very exciting being a part of this. I grew up watching television. It's such an honor to be a fan who gets to participate."

Of course we couldn't let the star of ABC's top-rated drama go without finding out about the upcoming season of Castle!

"Well, you know I proposed marriage to Beckett, (Stana Katic) in a cliffhanger episode, so she is either going to say yes or no!" he quipped.

Fillion continued by praising the show's brass for giving the fans what they wanted in terms of a romance for the popular couple.

"Of course, the fans appreciated that," said Fillion. "We have a lot of people out there who enjoy seeing them together."

Watch the Season 6 premiere of Castle tonight at 10/9c on ABC.
