One day you're in and the next day you're out. Oh wait, this isn't about Project Runway. Universal Pictures announced Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has quit the lead role of Christian Grey in highly-anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts.
"The filmmakers of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hunnam dropped out because he became "overwhelmed with the attention he received from the movie and got cold feet."
Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James wished Hunnam well, tweeting:
I wish Charlie all the best. x
The news is sure to stir hope among Matt Bomer (ex-Ben Reade, Guiding Light) fans. At last count, the Change.org petition for Bomer and Alexis Bledel to be cast as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele was over 87,000 and counting.
