Writing blog posts about daytime soap opera ratings used to depress the bejeezus outta me. Not anymore! All four remaining daytime suds have done stellar in the Nielsens this season and ratings leader The Young and the Restless is still going strong after 25 years.
The week of Dec. 2, Y&R marked its 1,300 consecutive week as the No. 1 soap in total viewers (since Dec. 26, 1988). Season-to-date, The Young and the Restless is averaging 5.10 million viewers, its largest audience to begin a season since 2011-2012.
"I am so proud of the talented cast and crew, past and present, for making The Young and the Restless No. 1 for 25 years," said Angelica McDaniel, Senior Vice President, CBS Daytime. "A special thank you to our loyal and passionate fans for helping us reach this incredible milestone."
Y&R tops the coveted women 25-54 and women 18-49 (tie) demos for the season and has been first among W25-54 for 354 of the past 356 weeks. As previously reported, General Hospital topped W25-54 the week of Dec. 2.
