It's been a long time since we regularly reported on the webisoap community here at Daytime Confidential. Too long, in fact! So let's dive right in with some of the buzziest news surrounding online series and their graduates.
Remember Imaginary Bitches, the hilariously-raunchy web-com starring All My Children's Eden Riegel? We went nuts over the show and knew its creator Andrew Miller (Riegel's husband) was destined for big things. It looks like we were right, as Miller (who developed The Secret Circle at The CW) has snagged a script commitment plus penalty at Fox! The scribe will write a new pilot for League of Pan, a soapy thriller following the Lost Boys from the Neverland tales as adults trying to track down a murderer.
Miller isn't the only webisoaper we gushed over who is now making Hollywood take notice. Buppies creator Julian Breece has joined the writing staff of Steve McQueen's (12 Years a Slave) high profile HBO pilot. If these game-changing developments aren't enough to inspire the current crop of web series creators, I don't know what could be!
Speaking of current webisoapers, The Bay recently wrapped production on the second half of its third season. I hear a major death will rock the Garrett family. Additionally, two of my fave Santa Barbara alums, A Martinez and Judith McConnell, have joined the ambitious drama. Look for The Bay to return with all new episodes in 2015.
One web sudser that's going strong is addictive teen soap Youthful Daze. The series just booked the most in demand actress in soaps, Eileen Davidson! YD is keeping Davidson's character top secret for now. I guess we'll have to tide ourselves over with their Halloween episode until she debuts. Watch it below!
Luke Kerr and I loved one web series so much, we became producers on it for a season! That laugh-out-loud serial comedy is Nate Golon's WORKSHOP, which just released an insane Michael Jackson spoof called "Remember The Thyme".
Now for a couple of newbie web series we're excited about. We have been big fans of Jordan Hudson since we first heard him utter the phrase "I am not amused" on the Pine Valley Podcast. Click here to follow the new soap he's appearing in, Latin Lives.
Next week comes the debut of steamy, urban gay drama Triangle from producer Caesar Will. If the teasers they've been releasing are any indication, you won't be able to watch this one during your lunch break at work!
Which web series are you most excited for? Sound off in the comments!
