It's Halloween 2014 and several soap opera characters we love and love to hate aren't getting any storyline tricks or treats in their goody bags this year. Keep reading to find out the 10 soap characters we believe need to scare up a plot twist or two before the end of the year!
No. 10: Kevin Fisher, The Young and the Restless
What a difference a few years makes. Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) went from having a sexy fashionista wife and beloved stepdaughter of his own on The Young and the Restless, to basically existing to prop other people's lives. Surely the writers can find more for a character portrayed by an adorable Daytime Emmy-winning activist to do, than snoop around Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren's (Tracey E. Bregman) martial woes?
We've been clamoring for Kevin to come out as gay and get, ahem, cuffed by his beefy cop supervisor/tormentor Detective Mark Harding (Chris McKenna), but if the show doesn't want to go that route, why not chem-test him with Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway)?
The Naked Heiress has to be peeved her fellow celebutante Kim Kardashian is making so much dough on her social gaming app. Maybe she and Kev could team up to do a little developing?
No. 9: Dr. Kayla Brady, Days of Our Lives
Soap Quiz Question: The wedding of which supercouple last saw Days of Our Lives hit No. 1 in Nielsen households? If you guessed the nuptials of Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Patch (Stephen Nichols), then I'll call you "Sweetness" for a week! Since Evans is so wildly popular with the DAYS audience, why is her iconic character relegated to playing auntie to her randy nieces and nephews?
The obvious solution to this problem would be to bring back Nichols and tell a huge Patch and Kayla reunion story, just in time for DAYS' 50th anniversary. If that isn't a possibility, then hook Kayla up with someone closer to home.
Lucas (Bryan Datillo) and Rafe (Galen Gering) are both flying solo. Okay, they were married to her niece Sami (Alison Sweeney), but when has a little quasi-incest ever stopped anyone in Salem U.S.A from getting busy?
Lucas could join the board of University Hospital and begin working closely with Chief of Staff Kayla on a new wing. Or, what if a rogue, former FBI associate of Rafe's manages to get his hands on a dangerous biotoxin, which he plans to weaponize and unleash on Salem? Rafe could use a dedicated doc to help him thwart this lethal threat, no?
No. 8: Carter Walton, The Bold and the Beautiful
We're sure Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) is an excellent Forrester Creations attorney on The Bold and the Beautiful, but what we want to know is when are we gonna see his legal briefs? Maya (Karla Mosley) played Carter for a fool when they were together. She accepted his marriage proposal, while continuing to lust after Rick (Jacob Young). Why not have Carter pay Maya back by leaking her scandalous affair with a married Rick to the tabloids?
As for Carter's non-existent love life, Eric Forrester (John McCook) does have a three daughters and a granddaughter out there. I predict Saint-Victor and Lesli Kay would be hot-like-fire if Carter and Felicia put their heads (and other body parts) together at Forrester Creations.
No. 7: Felix Dubois, R.N. General Hospital
Felix Dubois, R.N. (Marc Samuel) keeps getting the short end of the stick (figuratively of course) romance and story-wise on General Hospital. Brad (Parry Shen) and Lucas (Ryan Carnes) are getting hot and heavy watching Knots Landing and The Golden Girls. Milo's (Drew Cheetwood) magic pepperoni stick is reserved for Epiphany (Sonya Eddy). That leaves Felix once again relegated to sitting back and watching the telenovela that is his BFF Sabrina's (Teresa Castillo) life.
What if Felix proves to be the undoing of the nasty judge who's keeping Maxie (Kirsten Storms) from her daughter? Judge Moesha's Daddy (William Allen Young) is probably on the down-low. Felix could run into him at the leather bar over in Corinth, and end up having a one night stand. Felix has mentioned his parents don't accept him being gay. Maybe he has daddy issues? It happens.
When Felix realizes his new "daddy" is not only dating Dr. Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson), but is keeping Maxie from being happy with Georgie and Nathan (Ryan Paevey), he vows to help set things right. Y'all know how nosy Felix is!
One night in bed, Felix brings up Nathan and Maxie. Judge Moesha's Daddy starts going on and on about how he understands why Maxie wants the detective, because he is "FOINE!"
Judge Moesha's Daddy gripes he is sick and tired of all these vapid, little straight girls getting all the fine men. Felix is stunned to realize Judge Moesha's Daddy is blocking Nathan and Maxie because his nasty, old behind wants Nathan for himself!
The Scooby Gang decides to pull a sting. They have Nathan set up a profile on Port Charles' gay dating app, Freezer. When Judge Moesha's Daddy sees that Nathan's profile says he's on the D.L and has a thing for older black daddies, he thinks he's hit the jackpot!
When Judge Moesha's Daddy arrives at Nathan's suite—with lube and a riding crop—Felix, Maxie and Co. get there man! Once he's tied to the bed naked, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) comes in and takes pictures of Judge Moesha's Daddy.
If he doesn't allow Maxie joint custody of her daughter and stop standing in the way of her relationship with Nathan, they will go to Sam's dad, publisher of Port Charles' leading tabloid. Or something to that effect.
No. 6 and No. 5: Cane and Lily Ashby, The Young and the Restless
Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Lily Ashby (Christel Khalil) really need hobbies on The Young and the Restless. Billionaire Devon (Bryton James) hired them to run his business, not be all up in it!
Figuring out who Devon is screwing (Lily), and/or keeping it from happening (Cane) is all Lane has on the brain these days. Maybe it's time to SORAS their children, little Winnie and Nelson, I mean, Charlie and Maddie?
Lily kept Neil (Christel Khalil), Dru (Victoria Rowell) and Malcolm (Shemar Moore) on their toes during her rebellious teen years. A smart mouth, 13-year-old Maddie could prove a chip off the old teen-modeling block.
As for Charlie, we know how Jill Farren Phelps loves to tell shocking stories. What if the biracial teen endures the kind of racial profiling Trayvon Martin experienced?
No. 4: Lucas Horton, Days of Our Lives
Hurricane Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) has blown out of Salem, taking her tribe of children with her on Days of Our Lives. Sami's defection has left her ex-husband Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) with little more to do than chat up niece Abigail (Kate Mansi).
As the last member of the Austin/Carrie/Lucas/Sami quartet that drove story throughout the 90's and much of the 00's on DAYS, we sincerely hope TPTB have plans to give Lucas a decent storyline.
Lucas is too young, too hot and too viable to be the defacto patriarch of the Horton family. Why not have him reconnect with his boozing ex-wife Nicole (Arianne Zucker)? They both work for divisions of Titan Industries, after all. Let's get some sexual synergy going!
Brady (Eric Martsolf) could have Nicole and Lucas work together on a Mad World Cosmetics branded content series for Titan TV. Of course they'd hate the idea of working together, but on soaps especially, it's a thin line between love and hate sex.
No. 3: Donna Logan, The Bold and the Beautiful
Jennifer Gareis's return stints as sex bomb Grace Turner on The Young and the Restless have proven how much she's being wasted over at The Bold and the Beautiful as Donna Logan. With a body made for sin, why is Donna spending all her time counseling little sister Katie (Heather Tom)?
Donna needs to get her back broken something serious. Why not let her have a fun fling with Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor), or give Quinn (Rena Sofer) a worthy opponent for Deacon's affections (Sean Kanan)?
What I'd really love is for Donna to embark on a no-strings-attached affair with a much younger man. She could meet the hunky guy while visiting a spa in Death Valley. Maybe he's the lifeguard or tennis pro?
Donna believes her illicit tryst was only vacation sex. She thinks she'll never see "Deke" again. Imagine her horror when Hope (Kim Matula) introduces Donna to her brother, Eric Deacon Sharpe (Wishful Casting: Josh Kelly)!
No. 2: Lucy Coe, General Hospital
Don't get us wrong. We love Lucy (Lynn Herring) any way we can get her, but can the Mighty Ms. Coe get something more to do than marry off the citizens of Port Charles, New York on General Hospital?
What happened to Lucy relaunching Deception Cosmetics? Style icons Lucy and Maxie (Kirsten Storms) could certainly make a go of some posh, new business. Even if they failed, it would be a helluva lot of fun watching them try.
As for Lucy's love life—she does have one—her quad with Kevin (Jon Lindstrom), Scotty (Kin Shriner) and Bobbie (Jackie Zeman) plays so infrequently we forget who we're rooting for!
The next time Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) starts playing games with Julian Jerome (William deVry), why not let him end up in bed with Lucy? I bet she won't be such a prude about his mob activities. Besides, didn't his daddy have a thing for Lucy? It's only fitting for the son to achieve what his father couldn't.
No. 1: Jill Foster Abbott, The Young and the Restless
When I think of The Young and the Restless, I think of Kay Chancellor vs. Jill Foster Abbott. With Jeanne Cooper no longer with us and Jess Walton on recurring, it leaves a gaping hole in the canvas that no amount of sexy-if-wooden male models will ever be able to fill.
Y&R simply has to give Walton a meaty storyline worthy of the incomparable soap opera legend and her infamous character. My dream arc for Jill would be for history to repeat itself in the most karmic way possible. Kay brought a young Jill into her home and employ. That move altered the course of the drunken socialite's life forever, when Jill took up with Katherine's husband.
What if a pretty young thing—whom Jill takes under her wing—beds Colin (Tristan Rogers)? From Heaven, Kay would finally get her ultimate revenge and Walton would get a story intriguing enough to convince her to go back on contract.
