No. 10: Sam and Patrick, General Hospital
While Jason Morgan's (Billy Miller) "widow" and Dr. Robin Scorpio's (Kimberly McCullough) ex never technically DTR'rd (defined the relationship) on General Hospital, they still proved to be one of 2014's most intriguing pairings. Sam Morgan (Kelly Monaco) and Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) came together to solve the mystery of who killed Patrick's infant son.
Such a morbid conceit would have prevented most detective duos from fully enjoying each others' company. Not Samtrick. These two flirted across the globe and we loved it. If Patrick had only come clean with Sam about Jason not dying on the docks that night, these two dark-haired lovelies would be ringing in the New Year horizontally.
No. 9: Kate and Sami, Days of Our Lives
Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) had the mother-in-law from hell on Days of Our Lives. During their two decades of knowing one another, Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) tried to steal Sami's children, almost let her die of a lethal injection, put a hit on her and constantly came between Sami's romantic relationships.
Okay, Sami was no peach as a daughter-in-law. She blackmailed Kate with the knowledge she'd been a high-priced hooker, drugged and raped one of Kate's sons and lied about another one being a child abuser.
There was definitely no love lost between these two women, which is why Kate and Sami teaming up to exact revenge on the DiMera men turned out to be one of the most delicious plot twists in DAYS history. Does anyone know where we can get a print of that bitchin' picture of this dynamic duo that hung in the old DiMera living room set?
No. 8: Liam and Ivy, The Bold and the Beautiful
Whoever said once you go Hope Logan (Kim Matula), you never go back was wrong on The Bold and the Beautiful. All publishing exec Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) had to do was open his heart to the possibility of another, and sexy, Australian jewelry designer Ivy Forrester (Ashleigh Brewer) threatened to walk away with it.
Ivy is the direct opposite of Hope. Focused, mature and devoted to only one Spencer brother, she wasn't afraid to let Liam know she was his for the taking in 2014. She also had no problem putting Hope on notice.
From romantic boat rides in Amsterdam, to fun holiday parties, this intriguing new couple looked great together — even drenched in the River Seine. We hope Liam remembers the sweet times he had with Ivy once tragic Hope brings her melodrama back to SoCal.
No. 7: Nathan and Maxie, General Hospital
We will never understand why Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) felt the need to go find herself after laying eyes on Detective Nathan West (Ryan Paevey). Girlfriend could have done all the eating, praying and loving she needed in bed with this gorgeous hunk of a man on General Hospital!
Maxie and Nathan were prevented from picking up where they left off by her gross boyfriend Levi Dunkleman (Zachary Garred) for most of 2014. Once the faux vegan was outed as a crazed government operative, Maxie and Nathan were finally free to be together; that is until the vicious judge in her paternity case picked up the cock-blocking where Levi left off. We pray to the aliens on Lumina, things will get better for two of our fave star-crossed lovers in 2015.
No. 6: Quinn and Deacon, The Bold and the Beautiful
Quinn Fuller (Rena Sofer) and Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) make for strange bedfellows on The Bold and the Beautiful. He's the dad of her daughter-in-law/object of her obsession. She's as prone to stab him with a sword, as she is to sleep with him. Yet somehow, these two make it work. It certainly doesn't hurt that the two General Hospital alums share chemistry almost as insane as Quinn is.
No. 5: Nick and Sharon, The Young and the Restless
If you'd have told us a year ago, CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless could script a Shick reunion we'd actually enjoy, we'd have laughed our asses off. Sharon Collins (Sharon Case) is one of the most drastically damaged soap characters in the history of the genre.
You name it, one head writer or another has had her do it. Kleptomania. Three baby daddies. Bipolar disorder. It was almost like a reward was passed out in the Y&R writing room anytime anyone came up with something more awful to have Sharon do.
The year 2014 saw Sharon find her way back to sanity and high school sweetheart Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). She was so determined to get things right this time, she endured electroshock therapy! Unfortunately, the procedure caused Sharon to forget she'd changed paternity results to make it look like Summer (Hunter King) wasn't Nick's daughter. Hey, it happens.
Unaware of her heinous acts (she also accidentally caused Summer's mother to end up in a coma), Sharon and Nick embarked on a sweet romantic reunion almost 20 years in the making. If Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) hadn't woken up from her year-long catnap in time to criss-cross the country and stop the wedding, Shick would finally be experiencing their happily ever after.
No. 4: Brady and Theresa, Days of Our Lives
It's no big deal for a pair of coke-snorting boozers to hook up on a cable or primetime serial. However, it was downright game-changing when Days of Our Lives allowed bad seed Theresa Donovan (Jen Lilley) to snag Brady Black (Eric Martsolf). Theirs' was no boring PSA about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
Brady and Theresa relished their intoxicated, sexually-brazen relationship. That is, until she knocked the piss out of his dad with a fireplace poker. If only Brady's jealous ex, Kristen DiMera (Eileen Davidson), had minded her own business (and her own uterus), Theresa would be picking out new China patterns for the Kiriakis pantry.
No. 3: Hilary and Devon, The Young and the Restless
We'd all but given up on CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless ever recapturing the sexually-chocolate magic that once dripped from their Winters clan. All it took was for Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), the orphaned waif Neil (Kristoff St. John) took in all those years ago, to start lusting for Neil's trophy wife for a mocha renaissance to occur.
Okay, so technically Devon and Hilary (Mishael Morgan) were jonesing for one another long before she jumped the broom with his daddy. Once she and Neil were hitched, the forbidden factor on "Hevon" definitely made things more interesting — so did Neil losing his eyesight.
Can you imagine sleeping with the wife of your blind Pops? Devon and Hilary are a pair of lowdown, dirty, lusting dogs and we wouldn't have them any other way.
No. 2: Julian and Alexis, General Hospital
WTF does Madison Avenue know? One of the hottest couples in soaps receive AARP magazine in the mail once a month, and viewers young and old alike are eating them up!
Yep, we're talking about the smoldering pairing of Julian Jerome (William deVry) and Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) from General Hospital. The reluctant mob boss and the attorney who loves him captivated us like no other Port Charles lovers in 2014.
Alexis has long had a thing for bad boys. When your daddy tried to freeze the world, there's no way a mild-mannered accountant can do it for you! However, there is something unique about the push/pull of her involvement with Julian.
The guy who knocked her up in the backseat of a car several decades ago still has a major hold on Natasha's heart, as well as other body parts. Now if she can just get past his less-than-legal activities.
No. 1: EJ and Sami, Days of Our Lives
When a man helps you and your loved ones cover up multiple felonies, it's love. EJ DiMera (James Scott) proved his undying commitment to Samantha Gen Brady (Alison Sweeney) time and time again on Days of Our Lives in 2014.
Elvis risked everything to keep Sami, her son, her son's baby mama and the boy's granny out of prison. EJ's only major flaw was not coming clean about his sister raping Sami's brother. Considering there is no Chicken Soup For The Soul book on how to get past such a relationship issue, Sami opted to freeze EJ out of their pre-marital bed.
Enter nubile PR assistant Abigail Deveraux (Kate Mansi). EJ only initially engaged the Horton granddaughter to get her to keep quiet about Nick Fallon's (Blake Berris) mysterious disappearance. When Sami's beloved fell into bed (and into the shower) with Jennifer's (Melissa Reeves) daughter, it devastated EJami fans and much later Sami herself.
How could EJ betray her this way? Sami had an easier time getting over him stealing her children, than she did EJ sharing his flesh with another. The vengeful woman set about to dismantle the House of DiMera brick by brick, with the help of frenemy Kate (Lauren Koslow).
We knew Sami's resolve wouldn't last. She loved EJ with every cell in her body. That was obvious anytime they were on our screens in 2014.
