The new year brought with it a pair of devastating celebrity deaths. Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo passed away on Jan. 1. He was 82. On Jan. 4, ESPN anchor Stuart Scott lost his lengthy battle with cancer. He was 49. ABC Daytime's The View offered tributes to both men.

The co-hosts recalled Cuomo taking on late President Ronald Reagan at the 1984 Democratic Convention with his legendary "City on a Hill" speech.  They also memorialized Scott, the sports anchor famous for peppering his commentary with hip-hop references and zingers like someone being "as cool as the other side of a pillow".
