Prolific soap opera producer and director Wes Kenney has reportedly passed away. Days of Our Lives supercouple Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Dough and Julie) tweeted about his passing today.

Kenney began his career in television for the now defunct DuMont Television Network. He went on to direct Days of Our Lives from 1968-79. According to the Hayes' tweets, he directed the first appearance of antihero Doug Williams.

Kenney followed up his tenure at DAYS with a stint at The Young and the Restless. He was at the CBS soap opera from 1982-87. In 1987, Kenney became executive producer of ABC's General Hospital, replacing the formidable Gloria Monty. He held the post until 1989 and served as temporary head writer during the 1988 Writers Strike.

Kenney also directed for such primetime series as All in The Family and My Favorite Martian. In his later years, he taught at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.

Kenney is survived by wife Heather North, who portrayed Sandy Horton on DAYS and voiced Daphne in the Scooby Doo cartoon series.
