Jussie Smollett just might be the next great Renaissance Man. We already know dude can act and sing his behind off, as evidenced by his soulful portrayal of Jamal Lyon on Fox's monster hit Empire. Now we find out Smollett is a songwriter too!
On tonight's episode of Empire, "I Want Your Love", a jam Smollett recorded for his own CD prior to being cast as Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie Lyon's (Taraji P. Henson) gay son on the soap opera, will be performed.
Here's what Smollett told ET Online's Susan Hornik about the similarities between himself and his alter ego:
Jamal and I are very similar in that we are both very autobiographical songwriters. These are my stories; I am a songwriter. I get to tell what I go through on a daily basis, my insecurities and triumphs. It will be awesome to flip the script and let people know about me. My music is a little bit more rock infused, more guitar driven, while Jamal’s is very piano driven.
