Oprah Winfrey's cable channel is really starting to live its best life, thanks in large part to Tyler Perry and his brand of guilty pleasure soap operas.
OWN boasted its most-watched quarter ever for the first chunk of 2015. The Discovery-backed cabler averaged 581,000 total viewers in primetime for Q1 of 2015.
OWN was up 44 percent over the previous quarter. The channel came in No. 21 for the quarter in the women 25-54 demo among advertiser-supported cable channels.
Perry's The Haves and The Have Nots and If Loving You is Wrong led OWN's ratings surge. The scandalous dramas gave OWN its most-watch night in history on March 24, with approximately 2.9 million viewers tuning in.
The Haves and the Have Nots averaged a 3.13 rating among W25-54 (Live plus 3 days) and was watched by four million viewers. If Loving You is Wrong hit a 2.71 and was watched by 3.5 million.
Perry's sitcom, Love Thy Neighbor, is also doing well for Winfrey's channel. The program is Wednesday night's No. 2 original cable series for African-American women.
Perry can't take all of the credit for OWN's red-hot quarter. Iyanla Vanzant's exclusive interview with Chris Brown's ex-flame Karrueche Tran was watched by 813,000 people.
