Freddie Smith  won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Leading Actor for his performance as Sonny Kiriakis, half of daytime's first male gay married couple. The actor recently revealed he is leaving Days of Our Lives.

In the pressroom, Smith insisted his Daytime Emmy isn't making him reconsider his decision to leave, nor is the scorching-hot love triangle his character is featured in on the NBC soap. "I think it’s a reminder [of DAYS] but it’s also pushing me into the future; letting me spread my wings and move on. It represents a lot of things — the future and the past, if you will."

Smith enjoyed the mock The Price Is Right introduction to the category that he and co-stars Christopher Sean and Guy Wilson  presented during the telecast. "It was a lot of fun and I think it went really well," said Smith. "I’ve always wanted to know what it was like to be called up on The Price Is Right.”

The actor is thrilled  DAYS tied for Outstanding Daytime Drama. "It’s well-deserved. We’re there every day and I’m sure every other soap is. We all bust our butts and I think we both deserved to win. I’m just proud of the show. It’s been great to be a part of it. Fifty years,  that’s awesome."
