The producers of the 42 Annual Daytime Emmy Awards knew what they were doing when they teased a ceasefire between Ellen DeGeneres and The Today Show’s Matt Lauer.
DeGeneres used the opportunity to prank Lauer yet again, by imposing his head on another man’s body with heart tassels covering his nipples. Ellen told the Daytime Emmy audience Lauer would donate $1,000 to charity every time someone thanked him in their speech.
Sixteen people took Ellen up on the offer. On her show Tuesday, she played a clip of Daytime Emmy winners thanking “Matt Lauer" and pledged $16,001 to the earthquake relief in Nepal.
Lauer, not to be outdone, revealed Wednesday on Today he would be donating $16,002 to charity, and splitting it between UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders.
