Many The Young and the Restless fans have expressed their desire for Kevin Fisher to come out as gay and be paired with Detective Harding (Chris McKenna) on the CBS soap. It turns out Rikaart would like to see that story as well! He told the Gay Star News:
'I think it would be a super interesting story to tell,' he says. 'I think it would be more socially responsible than just bringing on a gay character - to have someone on the canvas that the audience knows and thinks of as family and takes that (coming out) journey.'
With Rikaart on board, now we just need the Y&R writing team to decide to go there. Days of Our Lives and General Hospital have gay couples. Y&R's sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, is breaking new ground with a transgender story. What's taking daytime's No. 1 soap so long to tell a full-fledged LGBT storyline?
