In an interview with Elle, Goldberg revealed her true motivation for getting into the burgeoning legal marijuana products business — to fight pain. Here's an excerpt from the revealing chat:
"People say to me all the time, 'Oh, you're just trying to get people stoned,'" Whoopi Goldberg says, when we spoke last week. "And I say, 'You know what? I don't care about that. I don't want that. I want to relieve pain."
Goldberg has teamed with Maya Elisabeth to launch Whoopi & Maya, a medical marijuana brand geared toward relieving pain associated with menstrual cycles. The company sells marijuana-based food items, rubs and bath salts among other things.
Goldberg shared her frustration with Forbes over the pot industry being dominated by men who, in her opinion, don't have a clue about how the flowering cannabis plant can be used to help women who are suffering.
“The fact that nobody was talking about this made me a little crabby,” said Goldberg. “That was the tipping point.”
