Sad news for Steve Burton fans. The soap veteran is leaving the role of Dylan McAvoy on The Young and the Restless

Burton, who shot to fame as wealthy scion-turned-mob enforcer Jason Morgan on General Hospital from 1991 to 2012 (minus a two-year sabbatical), made his CBS Daytime debut in 2013. At the time, Burton's good pal and former GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelps was in charge at Y&R. Earlier this year, Phelps was replaced by U.K. soap creator Mal Young

Burton never really caught on with Y&R fans, despite the soap retconning the histories of iconic characters Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) to make Dylan their long-lost son. According to the actor on Twitter, it is his decision to leave Y&R. He tweeted:
