Don't tell me Soap Jesus isn't real. First Sally Sussman and Kay Alden return to CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless as head writer and creative consultant respectively; now Ron Carlivati is in as head writer of NBC's Days of Our Lives with Sheri Anderson Thomas returning as creative consultant! Soap Opera Digest broke the news.

Carlivati replaces Dena Higley and Ryan Quan as the soap's top scribe. Those two should be commended for making DAYS watchable again after the vile, depressing 50th anniversary season. You didn't read that sentence wrong; yes, I complemented Higley. Quan will remain on staff as a creative consultant.

Carlivati took One Life to Live to the top of several key female demos during its final season on ABC. He also wrote stories that helped General Hospital reach eight-year highs.

Anderson Thomas is one of my all-time fave DAYS writers, hailing from the era of splashy 80's supercouples. I've been saying for years, Carlivati is the late James E. Reilly's heir apparent. His patented brand of larger-than-life umbrella stories, coupled with Anderson Thomas's penchant for sweeping romance and Quan's knowledge of show history should create quite the team.

We know you have thoughts about Carlivati joining Days of Our Lives, so sound off in the comments!
