Dynasty's potential reincarnation on The CW is shaping up to be a much more youthful experience. TVLine is reporting Melrose Place and Devious Maids star Grant Show has been cast as energy baron Blake Carrington in the pilot.
The new Dynasty will also be a much more racially diverse soap opera, should it be picked up by The CW. Blake's secretary-turned-bride Krystal (played by Linda Evans in the original series) is now Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), a Latina marketing whiz for Atlanta-based Carrington Atlantic (buh-bye, Denver Carrington!) in the pilot script.
Cristal faces off against Blake's power hungry daughter, Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies), who is caught in the middle of a love triangle with tech billionaire Jeff Colby (Sam Adegoke) and chauffeur Michael Culhane (Robert Christopher Riley). Did I mention both of Fallon's suitors are black this time around? Look at The CW trying to be woke!
Jeff was played by a pre-All My Children and As The World Turns John James in Dynasty 1.0 and its spinoff The Colbys. Wayne Northrop was the original Culhane. He made his debut as Fallon's (then-Pamela Sue Martin) driver-with-benefits the same year he created the beloved role of grizzled cop Roman Brady on NBC's Days of Our Lives.
Dynasty 2.0 hails from Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Sallie Patrick (Revenge) is also attached with original creators Esther and Richard Shapiro serving as executive producers.
