ABC Daytime is betting the bank General Hospital's first official fan convention (held March 11 and 12 in Los Angeles) will turn out to be a lucrative new revenue stream for the almost 54-year-old soap opera.

According to my sources, actor Matt Cohen (Griffin) originally pitched the idea to executive producer Frank Valentini bench-marking from similar conventions he's been involved with for the long-running CW hit Supernatural

So what's the difference between the First Annual General Hospital Convention and General Hospital Fan Club Weekend? "Only the actors and the fan club make money off Fan Club Weekend," says a source. "Warner Brothers officially sponsors those Supernatural conventions and therefore gets a cut of the profits. GH is hoping to do the same."

Anything that can help fill the daytime soap's coffers makes sense to me! Cohen is co-hosting the event with GH leading lady Laura Wright (Carly). Cast members Maurice Benard (Sonny), Kelly Monaco (Sam), Billy Miller (Jason), Jackie Zeman (Bobbie) Finola Hughes (Anna), Leslie Charleson (Monica), Kin Shriner (Scotty), Maura West (Ava), Vinessa Antoine (Jordan), Donnell Turner (Curtis) and many more are slated to appear.

The First Annual General Hospital Convention will be held March 11 and 12 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport. For information on how to purchase tickets, click here.
