General Hospital co-head writer Jean Passanante is turning in her laptop. The veteran soap scribe announced on Facebook she won't be renewing her contract with the ABC Daytime soap and plans to retire from penning suds this August.

Passanante, who began her entertainment career as an actress, has been co-head writer of GH with Shelly Altman since 2015.  Prior to her most recent GH stint, she co-helmed writers rooms for The Young and the Restless, One Life to Live, As The World Turns, All My Children and Another World. Passanante flew solo for a time as head writer for both AMC and ATWT, and held down various roles on soap writing teams over the decades.
