Mal Young is now doing double duty at The Young and the Restless. As I reported on Monday, the soap's executive producer has also taken on the responsibility of head writer. Young takes over from exiting scribes Sally Sussman and Kay Alden, both of whom are said to be retiring from writing soap operas.
Young is no stranger to penning suds storylines. Across the pond, the Briton co-created Doctors and Holby City. He also served as story consultant for River City. On the producing side, he helmed monster hits Brookside, EastEnders and Doctor Who, among other U.K. serials and programs. Young was also controller for continuing drama at the BBC for a lengthy stint.
I hear he successfully pitched quite the extensive vision for Y&R, complete with well-fleshed out long stories for the soap's core characters. Are you excited to see what Young will do as Y&R's top storyteller? Sound off in the comments!
