The new version of S.W.A.T. on CBS may have the exact same name and theme music as the original 1970's police procedural and 2003 movie, but that is as far as the similarities go, according to showrunners and the cast.
According to Deadline, S.W.A.T. leading man Shemar Moore explained at TCA how the show will tackle the "Trump years". Said the former The Young and the Restless heartthrob:
It’s not Black Lives Matter. It’s All Lives Matter. … It’s fear, it’s racism, it’s terrorism.
Executive producer Shawn Ryan also weighed in, revealing the show will explore the real and unabashed version of law enforcement instead of it being the traditional CBS series depicting them in a positive light. Ryan said:
“I think you can be pro-police and also be pro-truth.”
