Soap Twitter has been abuzz for days with rumors of Melissa Claire Egan's pending exit from CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless. I'm hearing the scuttlebutt is true. According to multiple sources, Egan is leaving daytime's top-rated drama to pursue primetime and film opportunities full-time.

Egan's former leading man Justin Hartley (ex-Adam) left Y&R in 2016 and now stars on one of TV's hottest shows. "Missy sees how much success Justin is having with This is Us, and she wants to get out there and see what can happen for her," says an insider.

There's no reason Egan shouldn't do well in primetime. She appeared on teen sudsers Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill before shooting to daytime fame as Annie Lavery Chandler on All My Children from 2006-2011. She made her Y&R debut as Chelsea Lawson, a con artist Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) hired to target his son-in-law, in 2011. I hear there are no plans to recast the role of Chelsea, and the door will be left wide open for Egan to return one day.
