Soap veteran Stephen Nichols is opening up about his upcoming departure from Days of Our Lives. In June Nichols, who is best known for his role on DAYS as bad boy turned private investigator Steve "Patch Johnson", announced via Instagram he was exiting the show due to lack of storyline. Nichols stated,
I’ve been in this business long enough to understand the rotation of stories, and I get that we can’t always be at the forefront. And despite my disappointment in the lack of story this past year, I’ve always worked hard and we’ve always tried to find the moments in whatever we’ve been given. I think we did that. Whenever I see a scene or montage you guys post, I am so touched and I remember just how much story we told for so many years and how rich it was. I’m so grateful for that. And I know that there are still years of Steve and Kayla’s story left to be told. I hope we get to tell that story.
Yours truly reported the real reason Nichols decided to vacate his role was because contract negotiations with the actor stalled over money. DAYS wanted to lower Nichols' guarantee and he refused their offer and left.
He responded to a fan's tweet, who showed support for the actor. It was revealed on Twitter that he and TPTB at DAYS reached an impasse when it came to his contract. Nichols tweeted,
