What were you doing 50 years ago? Chances are you weren't navigating the rough and tumble seas of the soap world. Susan Seaforth Hayes is celebrating a milestone anniversary with Days of Our Lives. The actress has been playing the role of Julie Olson Williams on and off (mostly on) since 1968, when NBC sudser was a mere toddler. DAYS honored her with a special episode that aired on December 11.
She and her husband, Bill Hayes (Doug), were married in 1974. They garnered press attention for their on-and-off screen pairing and both appeared on the cover of Time in 1976.
Seaforth Hayes has been nominated four times for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She also has one nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. In addition, she and her husband were honored earlier this year with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
After 50 years, Julie's work in Salem is not done. She is front and center in a story involving Abigail (Kate Mansi), who is on a quest to prove she's perfectly sane. The target? Julie's current nemesis Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus).
Here's a clip to the start of the special episode to get you warmed up if you're a bit behind.
