Soap veteran Judith Chapman is packing her bags and heading to Salem. Chapman is returning to Days of Our Lives. Now, just who will she play? Longtime DAYS fans may recall Chapman played Anjelica Deveraux, stepmama to Jack (Matthew Ashford) . . . and Justin's (Wally Kurth) former lover and mother of his son Alexander, from 1989 to 1991. Viewers also saw Anjelica go to the upper room onscreen with Morgan Fairchild in the role in 2017.

Chapman will play the role of Diana, Leo's (Greg Rikaart) much talked about mother, reuniting the actress with her former The Young and the Restless son, according to Soap Opera Digest. The last time Chapman was in Salem was for DAYS' special Halloween, 2018 episode. How was Chapman considered for the role? DAYS' Head Writer Ron Carlivati told the magazine,

"She was fresh in my mind because of that. It occurred to me that she had just played Anjelica, but I thought, ‘You know what? It was in a dream, it was one day Opens a New Window. , and the audience is kind of used to these things."

Was Chapman considered to play Rikaart's mom again due to their previous work? According to Carlivati,

Even though I didn’t totally follow that show, I knew that they had such a great vibe together, and I thought that would kind of add an interesting element to the Leo and his mother relationship by using the woman that played his mother on the other show. It was sort of this extra layer for the audience to enjoy. We went after Judith to come on the show and play his mother and luckily she was able to do it. They have such a great dynamic.

Could Chapman's Diana also have a connection to someone else on the canvas? From 1987 to 1989, heiress Diana Colville was a resident of Salem. She had a hot and heavy romance with John Black (Drake Hogestyn) when he thought he was Roman Brady, and she suddenly disappeared. Colville was played by General Hospital's Genie Francis. So, are they related?

Chapman’s first airdate is January 29.
