Jed Allan Dead at 84

Perennial soap patriarch Jed Allan has passed away. He was 84. He is best known for his roles on Days of Our Lives and Santa Barbara

Allan began his career in 1961 with roles on Love of Life and The Secret Storm. In 1971, he landed the role of Don Craig on Days of Our Lives. His fourteen years on DAYS made him a household name to soap viewers. His sudden departure from the show was very curious. He was written out very quickly with very little explanation.

Viewers didn't have to wait long to become reacquainted with Allan. He joined Santa Barbara as Channing Creighton Capwell, Sr. - better known as C.C. Capwell. Allan was the fourth and final actor to take on the patriarchal role in 1986. He continued with the show until its conclusion in 1993.

Allan was cast as Ed Grant on Port Charles in 2001. In 2004, he joined General Hospital in the role of Edward Quartermaine. This casting move by GH was very controversial because Allan was only two years older than Stuart Damon, who played his onscreen son Alan. In 2006, Allan exited the show. Jed Allan's final credited soap opera role was in 2011 as Harold Johnson on The Bay.

Allen had many guest appearances and short-term roles in prime time. He was most notably cast as Rush Sanders, father of Steve Sanders (Ian Ziering), on Beverly Hills 90210. The prime time soap suffered another devastating loss this week when Luke Perry passed away.

I have very fond memories of Jed Allan as C.C. Capwell on Santa Barbara and some memories (mostly YouTube based) of Allan's Don Craig, who was the husband of Deidre Hall's Marlena Evans. I would love to hear from you all in the comments. What are your memories of Jed Allan and his many soap opera roles?
