Judge Mablean Ephriam is returning to television. Ephriam is best known for being the first presiding judge on the syndicated television show, Divorce Court. Now, she is having her life turned into a family drama series. According to Deadline, Ephriam who became the first African American woman to have a nationally televised court show, will have the series created by her daughter, Daytime Emmy award-winning producer Taj Paxton and Don Handfield.
The series will focus on a black working-class mom, who works as a correctional officer. Just like the Justice with Judge Mablean did, she is working to get herself into law school. She will also navigate a tough relationship with her husband, a street-smart man whose staunch independence gets him into trouble...and on the wrong side of the law.
Ephriam stated about the upcoming show,
Though the series will be based on my story as a black mother and woman who worked hard to fulfill her childhood dreams of becoming a lawyer and judge, my failures and victories echo the lives of many black women, in particular, and women in general, as they deal with juggling career, motherhood and marriage.
