What do you get when you have four generations of women living under one roof . . . in Los Angeles? Serious Mood Swings. Former Guiding Light and One Live to Live star Crystal Hunt has created the new comedy series, which centers on Farrah (played by Hunt), who recently divorced her hugely successful, philandering and controlling husband Jonathan (Scott Bailey). Farrah is given the Malibu mansion she shared with her husband as part of their divorce settlement. However, she isn't able to maintain the humongous mortgage while receiving minuscule financial support to take care of herself and the couple's 8-year-old son Ryder.
In order to supplement her income because of her non-existent work experience, Farrah decides to rent out the rooms in order to keep the lights on. Comedy ensues after Farrah places an ad on Craigslist for female roommates, resulting in Coco (Robin Riker) an angry working woman, Dani (Christina DeRosa), an explosive Canadian-Italian culinary genius who also wants to become a Tinsel Town actress, and Emilia (Sophia Gasca) a mysterious Dominican entrepreneur attempting to gain U.S. citizenship. Rounding out the cast is former Hannah Montana star Jason Earles as Angel, Farrah's live-in handyman, television legend Donna Mills as Farrah's mom, and Dyan Cannon as her aunt.
How did this project come about? According to Hunt,
We felt there was a need for a great female ensemble comedy. Right now, you can only watch reruns of shows like ‘Golden Girls’ and ‘Designing Women’ to enjoy a female-driven show. Our thinking was to embrace the legacy of these programs while adding a modern twist
