Air Force veteran Clarke suffered a 2007 stroke. Also notable for his appearances in primetime TV and film, the actor had been in declining health for some time, according to a representative for the actor's daughter, The O.C. and DAYS alum Melinda Clarke. According to EW, she sang "Ave Maria" to her beloved dad as he passed.
A 1979 Daytime Emmy nominee and winner of the 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award, Clarke portrayed Mickey throughout the Horton son's most important storylines. The legal eagle was involved in a long-term triangle with sister-in-law Laura Spencer Horton (most notably played by Susan Flannery and Jaime Lyn Bauer) and brother/Laura's rapist Bill Horton (played by various actors).
But Mickey's greatest love was yet to come. In the 1970s, he met farm girl Maggie Simmons (Suzanne Rogers), who would become his wife and a Horton family matriarch. The two adopted Melissa Horton (Lisa Trusel); Maggie had Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) with Neil Curtis (Joseph Gallison), though Mickey raised her. A loving family man and lawyer for many of Salem's residents, the character of Mickey died in 2010.
Clarke is survived by his wife, two children, and three grandchildren. Daughter Heidi pre-deceased him, passing in 1994.
