Since exiting All My Children, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley) and former director Chris Goutman have taken different paths. Of course, Ripa is now co-hosting Live with Kelly and Ryan, but Goutman, a controversial former soap exec, is now an academic director and assistant professor at New York University Tisch School for the Arts.
The two ex-co-workers crossed paths again a few years back, when Ripa and husband/former co-star Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, AMC). Ripa recently told co-host Ryan Seacrest that son Michael, currently a NYU student, is taking a class taught by Goutman - and Ripa is currently producing a film for the class.
When touring colleges with Michael, Ripa recalled:
“We’re walking down the hallway and I hear a voice I know [say], ‘Consuelos!'” Ripa recalled. “He turns around and I see Chris Goutman, who was our director at All My Children … I worked with him for 11 years.”
Goutman reportedly cast Consuelos as Mateo, according to Ripa's story. Ripa added of Michael's decision to attend NYU:
"And he goes, ‘You have to come here because I am literally the reason you exist!' And that’s how he made a decision!”
