The Days of Our Lives DOOL App is hard at work behind the scenes. Not only does it feature promotions, games, and interviews, it can also be used to tell a story. Chad & Abby in Paris (Billy Flynn, Kate Mansi) is the first scripted series for the app.
The weekly digital series launched in August with 6-10 minute episodes when Chabby skipped Salem to start a new life in the City of Light. The series set the stage for the couple's return to Salem, which will be Monday, November 11.
Co-executive producer Greg Meng talked with TV Insider about his brainchild and what's to come for the newlyweds. Meng gave up some details about how long it took to develop the app and what the goals were,
Three years ago, we developed the process and the app itself, learning the capabilities it would have. Our goal was to expand and create a platform that would promote DAYS and provide additional content for the fans. We have so many wonderful, popular characters, the app is a way to tell stories for those characters that we don’t have time for on the air show.
Regarding Chad & Abby in Paris, Meng said,
Chad and Abby are a beloved couple, who are off the canvas. Where are they? They’re in Paris. Let’s create a story for them. We’re seeing into their lives and that will align with what we see when they come back onto the show [next month]. At the end of the second chapter, they’ll be back on the air show on NBC the following week.
Meng also spilled some tea on what's to come,
The material on the app is to enhance the stories on the show. They’re there to be enjoyed. We have more app series coming including a surprise series that’s launching at the end of November. It’s created by Ron Carlivati, our head writer, and it’s very specific to DAYS.
Chad & Abby in Paris will be eligible for Daytime Emmys in digital categories.
The DOOL App is free and is updated with fresh content regularly. The app is available from Apple's App Store and Android's Google Play.
