Vivica A. Fox (ex-Maya, Generations; ex-Stephanie, The Young and the Restless; ex-Carmen, Days of Our Lives) has made her mark on TV and on the big screen. But she admits that her own agent nearly made her miss out on her breakout role in Independence Day.

Why? The agent dubbed Fox just another actress "on a soap opera."

Fox recently recalled to Us Weekly that she had to audition six times for Independence Day. And she almost didn't even get in the door, saying:

The movie was so big that when I asked my agent why I wasn’t getting an audition, she said, ‘Oh, sweetie. You’re on a soap opera. You don’t have a big enough name.'

Of course, Fox went on to star in the flick opposite Will Smith, and the sci-fi thriller helped make her a household name across America. Fox currently appears on primetime soap Empire as Cookie (Taraji P. Henson)'s sister Carol Hardaway. She also produced and starred in four Lifetime Movie Network films this past summer.
