EGOT winner John Legend is defending his recent remake of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with daytime's latest addition, Kelly Clarkson. Recently named People's Sexiest Man Alive (with which Wendy Williams took issue), Legend reworked some of the holiday tune's predatory lyrics.
Legend told People:
First of all, there’s no side to be on. It’s just another version of the song. If you don’t wanna listen to it, you don’t have to. No one’s saying you can’t listen to the old version. Those versions all exist. People make new versions of songs all the time and we thought it’d be fun to update the song and make it more current.
Even on daytime, people have aired their grievances with the renewed tune. Sharon Osbourne debated the benefits of reinventing a classic on The Talk, coming out against it. On a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, featuring Legend's wife, model Chrissy Teigen, Clarkson said:
I love Sharon. She actually said and she means it, she loves (Teigen and Legend). That's why I thought it was so weird. Like, she took it so personal... I'm trying to understand it. There are so many issues in the world right now.
