Shemar Moore just made a triumphant return to The Young and the Restless as Malcolm Winters. Now, the actor will be coming back to CBS in primetime for one more season of his hit show SWAT, which was initially canceled after a six-season run.

On May 5, it was announced that the drama was being axed and that the Season 6 finale would become its series finale. Moore took to social media to share his dissatisfaction with the decision. In an Instagram video, he said the move "makes no sense," noting:

SWAT is the most diverse show on CBS. CBS, when I got hired to be Hondo on S.W.A.T., was getting a lot of flak for lack of diversity. If I post this, and I think I might, I will get in a lot of trouble with CBS because I’m calling them out. Because they’ve been wonderful to me for 26 out of my 29-year career.

Moore expressed his hopes that the show would get picked up again, saying:

CBS is gonna wake up and realize their mistake. Sony is going to realize that this is not the right move. I hope we can have a kumbaya and come back together and continue this show, because it's a good time for families across the world.

And he got his wish! On May 8, CBS announced that it had reversed its decision and renewed SWAT for one final season. Moore posted to Instagram in celebration:

In a joint statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS Entertainment prez Amy Reisenbach and Sony Pictures TV president Katherine Pope shared:

We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for SWAT and we have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year. SWAT has aired for six seasons on CBS and garnered a devoted following. We are pleased that we found a way to bring it back and give closure to the show’s storylines and characters, which audiences deserve. Once again, we appreciate the talents and efforts of the cast, writers, producers and crew and everyone who has contributed to the success of SWAT. We look forward to its return next season.
