Days of Our Lives Recap: And Just Like That, Ava Is a Free Woman

On today's Days of Our Lives recap:
DiMera Mansion: Holly wonders why Johnny and Chanel are back together since they got a divorce… and is now into girls. Chanel explains she’s in to both men and women. They invite her to join them and she places herself between the two.
Johnny stops the movie at the mid-point and Holly says it’s great, even though she thought it was so old it might be in black and white. Chanel thinks the step-sibling love connection is gross while Holly thinks it’s fine because they’re in love (ew…). Holly is sent off to retrieve sparkling water and Johnny decides it’s a good idea to mention Chanel moving into the mansion. She’s not keen on the idea but is cool to head upstairs for a sleepover after the movie. As they kiss, Holly returns. She pretends to trip and dumps the water all over Chanel. Holly apologizes because Chanel will have to go home to change. Johnny says he’s got a t-shirt and some sweats she can wear… much to Holly’s chagrin.
Holly starts to tell Johnny about her feelings for him when Susan arrives with Nicole and EJ. Nicole pulls Holly aside and asks her about the boy she likes.
Salem PD – Lobby: EJ and Susan arrive and encounter Susan. EJ’s happy since now Susan can press charges for attempted murder. Ava says she’s the reason Susan returned, and EJ reminds her that Susan would never have disappeared were it not for her. Just then, Rafe arrives, and Susan says she’s not pressing charges against Ava. She and EJ exit leaving Rafe to go round and round with Ava.
Rafe reminds Ava she was at Bayview under court order. They will need to depend on her doctors to determine whether or not she remains free.
Salem PD – Interrogation Room: Marlena arrives to thank Harris for rescuing Susan from Edmund. He plays off his actions, but Marlena won’t stand for his humility. He explains how Ava was the person who led the charge. Marlena wonders why he took all those risks for Ava and thinks he’s in denial about his feelings. Just then, Ava and Rafe enter.
Rafe updates Harris and Marlena on the charges that won’t be filed against the duo. However, Ava needs to deal with Bayview. Marlena says she’ll make a call but the final decision isn’t up to her. She says she’ll chat with her doctors to see what she can do.
Ava and Harris are bummed there’s no evidence to use against EJ for trying to kill Ava. Just then, Marlena returns saying the doctors believe Ava is no longer a risk to society and ready for release. She’s thrilled and immediately exits to call Tripp. After her exit, Marlena says Bayview is ready to read it Harris. He’s not sure he needs it anymore as he doesn’t think he’s a danger to the good folks of Salem. He asks if he can see Marlena on an outpatient basis. She agrees and asks if his decision has anything to do with Ava. Harris unconvincingly denies her assertion.

Horton Square: Tater Tot explains to Nicole how he met this young woman in the park. He identifies the girl as Holly which immediately catches Nicole’s attention. She pulls out a picture of her daughter on her phone and Nicole confirms who he met. Tate stumbles over himself trying to take back his words, but Nicole says it’s all good. They move forward and Tate explains Holly is in love with some other guy… which is a surprise to her mother.
Tate says Holly didn’t mention the guy she’s crushing on. Nicole thinks maybe she was pulling her chain, but Tate says Holly thinks her guy feels the same as she does. With that, Tate exits and EJ enters. She says she has a huge surprise and Susan arrives on the scene. Nicole musters up some energy to be surprised that someone in Salem is back from the dead. Susan is equally surprised to find Nicole pregnant and assumes it’s Rafe’s. EJ quickly explains the baby is his and Susan realizes she needs all kinds of updates. EJ follows up saying they’re engaged and the baby is her grandbaby. Susan says she’s not getting any vibes from the baby. EJ explains they’ve even completed a paternity test. Susan immediately asks if Nicole has been “ho-ing” around on her son. Nicole quickly explains a bit about the tainted biscuits.
Marlena’s Penthouse: Tater Tot arrives home and Brady wonders where the hell he’s been. Tate explains he walked through the park and met Holly. Brady kind of gives him the business and Tate wonders if he’s not allowed to think someone’s cute. Brady says he’s ok to feel but maybe not to act on them at this moment. Before he can exit the room, Brady apologizes and admits he’s being hard on his son. He’s worried about Tate who will be enrolled in Salem High School and will begin working at the Brady Pub. Tate is none too happy, but Brady lays down the law.

Marlena arrives home and gives Tater Tot a great big hug. He calls her “Granny Mar Mar” because Rachel does. Marlena says he can call her “Grandma Marlena” and he agrees. With that, she and Brady exit to set up his bedroom. Tate immediately gets on his phone and texts Holly.
Holly pulls Nicole into the other room and scolds her for talking about her love life. She lies and says she made it up because Tate tried to kiss her. Nicole accepts her explanation because she wants to believe they have a close relationship. Just then, she receives a text from Tate asking to hang out the next day. She brutally rebuffs him just as Chanel arrives.
Johnny can’t believe Susan has been alive all this time, and she explains a bit about how Ava and Harris rescued her. EJ is not amused but Susan and Johnny tell him to leave Ava alone.
Rafe looks at a picture of EJ and says aloud he knows what EJ did.
Kate gets a call from Harris who asks if Roman is around because he’s looking for a room. Kate speaks for Roman saying he’d be happy to let him stay there. Just then, Ava arrives back and Harris says he’s also steering clear of Bayview.
