WATCH: B&B's John McCook and Thorsten Kaye Dish Latest Battle For Forrester (VIDEO)
The battle between Eric (John McCook) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) is raging over at The Bold and the Beautiful. Eric is trying to design his final collection and reclaim his legacy as a designer while hiding an illness, while Ridge is attempting to retain his spot at the helm. The actors chatted with Michael Fairman TV about the storyline.
McCook shared:
I’m happy to have my stories with Thorsten. I’m very happy to have the father-son stuff. We love that; it’s full and it’s round and it’s heavy and it’s full of love. This is a story about how they love each other. The conflict that you're describing, the conflict that happens, begins from a place of great, deep love between these two characters. And so the ageism part, with the fact that Eric is older and that it’s a family business — I mean, it could be a tire shop and we could be having the same trouble. The older guy runs it this way and the younger guy says, 'Yeah, it’s okay, but we’d like to change it a little.' And there's a feeling of disrespect and disloyalty that gets exaggerated in the minds as it goes on.
Fairman queried if Ridge's ego so massive that he believes he's the only guy to lead Forrester forward. Kaye responded:

I don’t know it’s necessarily about the ego of it. I think this company needs to be run and Dad asked his son to do that for him. Now everything is in place and now Eric has decided that he wants to take over again, that he wants to do something, so it’s not even about my designs against his. 'Well, we have something in place that is going to work and you're kind of messing it all up with what you're trying to do here.'
McCook went on to not that the story isn't so much about ageism as it is about a character who's gotten older. He explained:
But it’s not about ageism. Ageism is a bad word these days. That’s not what I mean. I’m just playing the part I’ve been playing for years and years and now it’s been a long time, so here it is; I’m proud to do it.
