Days of Our Lives Recap: Salem Celebrates the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday
On today’s Days of Our Lives recap:
Park: Chad and Everett are cleaning up trash and shooting the breeze about sports. Everett is acting a bit odd and falls backwards onto the bench. Chad gathers up Thomas and Charlotte and they all head out to get Everett a little bite to eat.
Jada is very upset as she just had a very disturbing encounter with a store owner who accused her of stealing. They called the police, who identified her as one of them. She’s furious she had to deal with the situation, but also notes she’s not allowed to get mad.
Brady Pub: Chanel, Abe and Paulina are outside the pub discussing the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Johnny emerges with coffee for those who are volunteering for the festivities. Johnny and Chanel get all adorable and go into the pub. Just then, Nicole walks up and Paulina asks about Holly. Nicole says Holly is heading towards a rehabilitation facility in Italy – the same facility where EJ recovered from his bout with death. They’ve decided Nicole will go with Holly while EJ will remain in Salem.
Jada and Rafe arrive and discuss the importance of Martin Luther King’s legacy and its impact on her life along with all people of color. She can’t let go of what happened earlier and thinks highlighting injustice is more important than quietly moving forward. Rafe tells a story about writing a check at a grocery store when he was treated differently because if his last name. Jada relates but says at least he isn’t given grief because of his hair.
Chanel updates Johnny about Paulina’s upcoming doctor's appointment. She’s concerned about what they will say and he tries to comfort her. They move along to discussing what happened to Jada, and Johnny asks Chanel if anything similar ever happened to her. Chanel relays the story of something that happened recently in Horton Square. Johnny is surprised as he’s never seen anything like what she’s describing. Chanel says he hasn’t noticed before because he wasn’t looking for it. She reminds him of how people treated them as an interracial couple in Italy. Their relationship would have been illegal a few short decades ago.
Jada calls Chanel over and asks if she’s ever had anyone ask if they could touch her hair. Chanel relays a story backing up Jada and Johnny joins and asks about the hair issue. They all laugh but Chanel says asking questions helps overcome unconscious bias. They move along to discussing the intersection of race, gender and sexuality with Chanel’s identity as a bisexual woman of color being the focus.
Horton Square: A very weary Sloan runs into Leo. He complains about how little money Sloan is providing him, but is thrilled by the return of Lady Whistleblower’s comeback column. He says he will write a column about her situation with Nicole if she doesn’t keep funding his lifestyle. As he walks away, Nicole arrives on the scene. They snark about Leo before talking about baby Jude and Holly. Nicole updates her about Holly’s possible relocation to Italy. Sloan is glad Nicole is getting Holly help and has prayed for her recovery.
They switch topics and Sloan says she and Eric are having John and Marlena over for dinner. She admits she finds Marlena intimidating and Nicole says she understands as she was once in Sloan’s position. Nicole tells Sloan to have wine to calm her nerves. Sloan assures her she will as she’s already purchased two bottles.

They talk more about Marlena and Nicole fills Sloan in on the history between Samantha Gene and Marlena – and the affair with John. Sloan is stunned Marlena ever did anything so scandalous (someone please give Sloan the full update Marlena’s notorious history). Nicole also tells Sloan to ask Marlena for advice and the evening will be smooth sailing. Sloan thanks Nicole for her helpful words. Nicole notes the two have a lot in common and in another world, they may have been friends.
The Spectator: Everett gained some nourishment, allowing he and Chad to have an editorial meeting. Everett says he is covering Paulina’s podcast while also keeping a watchful eye on her possible health issues. Just then, Leo arrives and immediately begins discussing the upcoming return of Lady Whistleblower. He sends Chad and Everett the column, and they both think the column is incredibly impressive.
Chad is amazed as Leo has written a column about the historical contributions of gay people of color. Leo has linked gay rights to civil rights and Everett thinks they should publish the article under Leo’s name and not Lady Whistleblower. Chad questions whether or not they should publish the article as The Spectator isn’t always on the cutting edge of progressiveness. Everett pushes Chad saying they have an obligation to publish such an important piece and he relents.
Paulina’s Office: Paulina and Abe arrive and she begins to record her podcast. Her cough pops up and Abe asks about her follow-up appointment. Paulina says she’s going in the next day to find out about her prognosis. He offers to go with her and she is thankful he wants to be with her. With Abe’s support, Paulina moves forward with her live podcast. When her voice begins to crack, Abe jumps in and helps her out.

Endings
Sloan thanks Nicole for being so generous when she hasn’t reciprocated. Nicole doesn’t understand as she thinks Sloan has been very generous for not pressing charges against her and not complaining about the time Eric has been spending with Holly. They continue to bond until Sloan freaks out. She quickly thanks Nicole and exits.
Leo thanks Everett and Chad for being gutsy enough to publish his article. They enjoy a small amount of bonding time before sending Leo out to volunteer to clean up the park. He reluctantly agrees as Chad and Everett giggle as they watch him go.
Chanel, Johnny, Jada and Rafe discuss career choices that make a difference. Chanel brings up Paulina and they decide to listen to her podcast.
Paulina live podcasts about the meaning of the holiday as Abe listens in.
