Arguably the hottest story in daytime television is The Young and the Restless‘ iconic Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) versus new (but already captivating) villain Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk). Daytime Confidential spoke with Scott on the red carpet at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys about all things Nikki Newman.
Did Scott have any inkling Nikki’s story would be so huge? She laughed and replied:
I don’t think any of us realized it! I mean, we heard something was coming, but figured it would be two or three weeks and move on to something else. I think the dynamic between all of us—Colleen Zenk, Hayley Erin (Claire Grace), and Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman)—was interesting. I think maybe they realized, wait, we’ve got some good chemistry between these women. I could be completely wrong!
Scott really hit the nail on the head. When asked about how she feels about Nikki chugging booze again, Scott states:
Isn’t it fun? I’m loving it. We’re all loving it!
Drunk Nikki has always been extremely entertaining. This time her reason for drinking is a new face to Y&R, but not to longtime soap fans. As The World Turns alum Zenk is really putting her all into playing the evil Aunt Jordan, and fans are ecstatic. Scott sang her praises when I inquired what is was like working with the New York soap legend, saying:
She is incredible! From her first day, we have become close friends, if you can believe that. We’re kind of like the same person. We have so much in common, and I love her dog!
The twists and turns of Aunt Jordan’s quest to avenge her late sister, Eve Howard (Margaret Mason), have been nothing short of soapy at every turn. From the introduction of Nikki’s thought-to-be-dead granddaughter Claire/Eve to the liquor IV and that familiar tune from The Bayou, it’s been a true rollercoaster ride. As for what’s next, well, Scott teased:
Just when you think it’s over, it’s not! It’s continuing!
